The Story Behind the Ariat Zip-Up Cowboy Boots: Innovation for Everyone
We are proud to offer the first zip-up cowboy boots for ranchers and riders with limb loss or foot complications.
Why We Created Zip-Up Cowboy Boots
The idea for the EZ Zip™ boots was born from listening to our community. Over the years, we’ve heard countless stories from customers who thought they’d have to give up traditional cowboy boots due to physical limitations. Whether it’s mobility challenges, medical conditions, or the inability to wear traditional pull-on Western boots, these stories inspired us to create a boot that brings cowboy style back into everyone’s life.
Jack Teague, Ariat VP of Footwear Design, shares, “It’s been touching to hear the impact that EZ Zip boots are having on people’s lives. This collection is a testament to the idea that comfort and accessibility can go hand in hand with craftsmanship and style.”
How We Made Our Adaptive Zip-Up Cowboy Boots: The EZ Zip Entry System
Informed by decades of research, our team designed the EZ Zip Entry System to be the ideal boots for prosthetic legs and for those unable to wear traditional pull-on cowboy boots because of lower-leg complications. With the help of our diverse customer wear-testers, EZ Zip boots went through numerous design iterations to ensure a snug and supportive fit identical to any of our other boots and Western footwear.
Full Back Zip Function: A top-to-bottom zip design that makes putting on and taking off boots simple for those with limited foot or ankle flexibility.
Heel Slit for Easy Entry: A discreet slit through the heel provides additional room for prosthetics or braces.
A Revolution in Western Footwear
The EZ Zip Adaptive Boots Collection represents the Ariat commitment to innovation and inclusivity. Available in styles like the Workhog XT, Ryden, and Primetime, these boots offer something for everyone—including a zip-up cowboy boot style that was designed specifically for kids. Customer Stories
Reuniting with Cowboy Boots
“I’m an amputee and was so happy to be back in a pair of boots. I lived in my boots before my amputation, and I’m so thankful to be able to have a pair again without them costing a fortune. They are so easy to get on and off. Thanks, Ariat!”
— GingyB, Primetime EZ Zip Cowboy Boot
Regaining Independence After Surgery
“These boots are easy to put on and put off. I had a spinal fusion done to my lower back and replaced 5 discs. I wasn't able to put boots on on my own since I cannot bend to pull the boot up. Now I feel like I regained some independence.”
— Ed84, Ryden Ultra EZ Zip Cowboy Boot
Small Changes that Make a Difference
“After complications from foot surgery and blood clots, I can no longer flex my foot in the way I needed to pull on a tall cowboy boot. I was heartbroken that I couldn't wear my Ariat boots any longer and gave them to my niece to enjoy. But then I found these! This amazing change to the classic cowboy boot allows people like me to wear boots again! I'm beyond happy.”
— ValaJane, Primetime EZ Zip Western Boot
A Perfect Fit for Medical Needs
“I can't tell you how ecstatic I am to finally have a pair of traditional cowgirl boots that are accessible for my fused ankles and braces!”
— Cary P, Primetime EZ Zip Western Boot
Making Memories Again
“Our son had four foot surgeries in the last two years. He had no hope of wearing traditional cowboy boots since he can’t slide his foot down the shaft and into the footbed. Thank you for creating these boots for people with foot/leg disabilities and difficulties.”
— GC87, Ryden Ultra EZ Zip Cowboy Boot
A Practical Solution for Everyday Life
“Got these boots for my work as a machinist. The quality of these boots is as good as any that Ariat makes. I have worn Ariat boots for years and am glad to have a pair I can wear again.”
— Bill1971, WorkHog XT EZ Zip Carbon Toe Work Boot
