What jeans are popular now for women?
Styles and trends are constantly changing, but if there’s one thing that’s not about to change, it’s denim as a year-round wardrobe must-have.
This season we’ve seen a real move towards looser fits and straighter styles, but that’s not to say that the classic skinny is no longer a wardrobe must-have. It’s still a chic, flattering style that deserves a spot in your denim collection.
With the popularity of cowboy boots spiking recently, so too has the bootcut design. It’s utterly flattering, slimming the silhouette and elongating the leg, and fits with the western chic so many are looking for right now.
Women’s jeans guide: types of jeans styles & fits at Ariat
The fit
At Ariat, we have an array of denim fits to suit every body type and every occasion.
Trouser Fit
Our widest fit of jeans, the trouser fit, is much like a wide leg. It fits more loosely over the thigh, with the widest leg opening just above the knee, and a continued loose fit to the floor.
Straight Fit
A very versatile style, our straight fit jeans at Ariat are designed with a slim fit feel through the thigh, and an untapered leg.
Bootcut Fit
Universally flattering, Ariat’s bootcut jeans feature a slim fitting thigh, just like the straight leg designs, but with a slight ‘kick’ just below the knee, widening through the calf down towards the hem. This makes them perfect to fit over a pair of boots.
Flared Fit
Our flare jeans also feature a slim fit through the hip and the thigh, with a more dramatic flare from the knee.
Skinny Fit
With a slim fit from the hip all the way down to the ankle, our skinny fit jeans are made with performance stretch denim to hug the whole length of the leg, creating a streamlined look.
The rise
We believe that there are multiple factors that play a part in finding that perfect pair of denim jeans. So, whilst the fit of the jeans is important, the rise plays a vital role too in both style and comfort. The rise is the distance between the middle of the crotch seam and the very top of the jean waistband. So, what are your options?
Low-Rise
Our low-rise jeans sit right at the hip. This is the lowest rise we offer, with the distance between the crotch seam and the waistband at its smallest. Athletic body types tend to rock these jeans.
Mid-Rise
Our mid, or ‘perfect’, rise jeans sit just above the hip. This tends to be the most regular rise, covering more of your lower stomach than a low-rise, but sitting below your waist. These jeans are universally flattering, suiting almost every body type.
High-Rise
Our high-rise jeans at Ariat sit at the waist, covering the most amount of your stomach in comparison to low- and mid-rise styles. These are great for accentuating your waistline, and work for every body type.
The material
Made with the highest quality materials, all of our jeans at Ariat are made with ring-spun denim, designed for versatility and durability, whilst also giving just the right amount of stretch. Look out for our performance stretch denim, for that extra give that provides movement and comfort.
How do I know which jeans fit my body type?
Finding the perfect pair of jeans can be difficult, but considering your body type, and how each style looks on you, can go a long way in finding that pair that you will fall in love with. Whilst personal preference here is the leading factor in finding the best jeans for you, there are characteristics that suit some body types better than others, and vice versa. So, which jeans might be best for your body type?
Apple: for an apple body shape, it’s often said that skinny and bootcut styles suit best. As an apple body shape, you’re likely to have slim legs, so a skinny cut helps to show these off perfectly, although they’re not for everyone.
If they are for you, go for a high-rise fit to help define your waist. If they’re not your cup of tea, the bootcut jean is your go-to – the slight kick at the knee helps to balance out a wider upper body, giving you a more balanced silhouette. We recommend the R.E.A.L. High Rise Ballary Boot Cut Jean.
Pear: To balance out volume in the hip and thigh area, we think a bootcut or flared style are the best jeans for women with a pear-shaped body. This cut helps to elongate lengthen the leg, whilst also balancing out the silhouette.
We also think a straight leg style works well on a pear-shaped body, by hugging you around the hips and then skimming the rest of your leg rather than clinging to it, giving a balanced straight look. We love the R.E.A.L. Perfect Rise Abby Straight Jean because they go with just about anything.
Hourglass: While most jean types are flattering for an hourglass figure, we think the bootcut and skinny-fit jeans accentuate your curves best, whilst flaunting your waist. To accentuate this even further, we recommend a high-rise design. Try our Premium High Rise Skinny Jean.
Straight: Again, while straight body types could get away with most styles, we recommend accentuating your waist to give a greater illusion of curves. To do so, we think a high-rise bootcut or wide leg, boyfriend fit or trouser jean work best. These High Rise Bessie Boot Cut Jean provide effortless style.
For straight body types, whilst a low- and mid-rise is flattering, to accentuate the waist even further and give more balance to your silhouette, try a high rise.
Strawberry: You’ll find a theme in all of our recommendations – balance. As a strawberry body type, the volume sits in broader shoulders or a heavier top half, so to even this out, we’d go for volume in the bottom half with a trouser/wide leg style or a flare.
